May 2010

May 6, 2010 - Tomorrow is the big day - hard to believe it is here.  I think we are ready to go - definitely ready to meet Megan and see if she looks like Ryan with the button nose and dark hair or if she'll have blond hair.  Below is a picture of my belly from last weekend.  We'll update the website as soon as we can to share Megan with everyone!

May 10, 2010 - Megan has arrived!  She was born at 12:45 p.m. on Friday weighing 6 lbs 3 oz and 19 1/2 inches long.  She was much smaller than I or Scott expected.  The c-section went well and I am recovering nicely.  I did have a bit of nausea right after I got up to my room but that got better and I've only been on ibuprofen since then - no narcotics.  Megan is beautiful with really long fingers and toes.  Her fingernails are already really long.  I'm not sure who she really looks like.  At times I see Ryan, at times I see me and at times  I see Scott.  We brought Ryan down Friday and Saturday to see his little sister and he couldn't care less.  When Scott was changing Megan's diaper and she was crying, Ryan thought that was pretty funny.  We'll see what he thinks now that she's home.  We got to come home around 4:30 yesterday - nice Mother's Day gift.  Last night was a bit of a struggle.  After having fed well after we first got home, our 10 p.m. feeding went ok but then Megan was acting like she was starving within 30 minutes of eating.  It went like that until finally we had to supplement her with a little formula because I had nothing left.  She then slept.  We'll see how today goes.

It was so nice to have the normal birthing experience, to get to have her in the room with us after delivery and not have to go to the NICU.

May 25, 2010 - Megan is almost 3 weeks old - the time is flying.  We've been doing good.  After the first 2 nights home from the hospital without any sleep we worked hard to get her sleeping longer periods of time at night.  After the 3rd night we were getting 3 hour chunks, which was helpful to Scott & I.  Now we're working on increasing that.  Megan is a pig - she is a really good eater and usually wants more than I can supply.  I've been working on increasing my supply but we've still had to supplement her with an extra bottle or two (with it being formula or breast milk depending on what is available).  When we left the hospital Megan weighed 5 lbs 12 oz and last Friday at her 2 week checkup she weighed 6 lbs 10 oz.  I call her Piglet while Scott calls her Peanut.  Grandma Connie has been here since Megan was born but left yesterday.  She was a big help with Ryan which allowed me to focus on Megan and get some sleep on occasion.  Now we're figuring it out without her help!  I'm a bit tired (imagine that) but what really sucks is I caught a cold from Ryan last week so I've felt horrible.  Not what you want with a 2 week old.

Ryan has been doing well with Megan although I'm not sure he really knows what to think of her yet.  He tends to laugh when she cries and he will watch her and reach for her at times.  He is almost over his cold - still has a cough.  Not sure where he caught it.  He continues to make progress with new words, learning body parts, walking in his walker and a form of army crawling.  In his walker he is exploring more around the house as he is with army crawling.  His left side is definitely weaker (due to the brain damage) so we need to work on this side some more.  Sunday he started scooting from the living room, went out to the kitchen, past the bar stools, into the dining room and back toward the living room.  All on his own without us trying to motivate him.  We love it!  His hair has been getting long and out of control.  Scott & I have been debating on shaving it off for the summer because it is so thick and heavy and he is such a warm body.  Last Wednesday Scott got the clippers out and went to town.  Lindsey helped clean it up on Saturday and it looks pretty cute.  Changes his looks again.

We hope everyone has a great holiday weekend.  We'll just be hanging out at home.
